コールドプレーの800万回

コールドプレイを知ったのは、何年か前の「Newsweek」の記事だった。ちょうど「X&Y」の制作時の様子がレポートされていて、それにのぞむクリス・マーティン （Chris Martin）の真摯な態度に感心したのを覚えている。

記事では「800万回、聴ける曲を」とあり、

「もうこれ以上は聴けない」とマーティン。「同じ曲を800万回も聴いたんだ。これ以上いじっても仕方ない。」そう言って、上着を手に出て行こうとする。

でもあなたが800万回で飽きるとしたら、リスナーは？　マーティンは上着を置いた。「仕方ない。もう一度やるか」

と、しめくくられている。

イギリスのロックバンド。1997年にロンドンで結成される。メンバーは、
クリス・マーティン（ボーカル・ギター・ピアノ）
ジョニー・バックランド（ギター）
ガイ・ベリーマン（ベース）
ウィル・チャンピオン（ドラム） の４人

インディーズ時代を経て、2000年3月にシングル『Shiver』でデビュー。
今までに、パラシューツ （Parachutes：2000年）、静寂の世界（A Rush of Blood to the Head：2002）、X&Y（2005年）、美しき生命 (2008：Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends) の４枚のアルバムをリリース。

なお、「美しき生命」の続編と言われる「プロスペクツ・マーチ」は、2008年12月17日発売。世界限定25万枚（日本では１万枚）なのだそうだ。

その際彼らのアイディアとしてあったのが続編のリリース。それが限定生産となる『プロスペクト・マーチ』なる作品である。セッションで生まれた新曲6曲とJay-Zをフィーチャーした「ロスト＋」(Jay-Zリミックス)、新たにミックスされた「ラヴァーズ・イン・ジャパン」(Osaka Sun mix)の全8曲が収録される予定だ。（http://www.barks.jp/news/?id=1000044668）
